We are aware of the recent email sent to disabled fans from NUFC regarding personal assistant tickets. NUDSA is actively liaising with the club to address the various concerns this has raised. The club is requesting this information to ensure their records for all disabled fans are current and accurate, and to ensure all disabled fans receive the necessary support to safely enjoy matches at St. James’ Park.
We recognize that the timing of this request is not ideal with the new season approaching, but we understand the club’s need to gather this information. We are working with the club to ensure that future information requests to disabled fans are only made when relevant and necessary, and are provided with ample notice.
We understand the frustration this request has caused and are providing feedback to the club. NUDSA has been assured that delays in submitting forms will not result in tickets being withdrawn. However, we recommend that disabled fans contact their GP or Consultant as soon as possible to complete the required forms.
We are aware that there may be costs associated with getting the form completed, but we would like to highlight the substantial concessions NUFC offers on disabled tickets, as well as complimentary personal assistant tickets for those eligible. Therefore, we believe this is a reasonable request. We are advising the club to make these requests as infrequently as possible.
Lastly, we are aware of the use of the word “trivial” within the medical questionnaire and understand that this term may cause offense. The club has followed legal guidance in line with the Equality Act 2010, using this word in a specific context on a form intended for medical professionals. While NUDSA does not necessarily agree with this wording, we feel that we should explain why it is included on the form.
